On July 18, on her way to lead worship at New Life Church in Boone, Justina Brinkley, a senior at Appalachian State University (ASU), was in an automobile accident. Broadsided by an SUV, she suffered several broken ribs, a punctured lung, a lacerated spleen, two fractures on her pelvis, and a broken sacrum. Just before she was hit, Justina threw her hands up in the air according to an eyewitness, an act that miraculously protected her hands and face from injury. Overwhelmed with gratefulness, she and her family recognize that the Lord not only kept her life but also made it possible for her continue to play her instruments during this time of recovery.
The bill for two days in ICU and two more on the orthopedic floor has already reached over $60,000. At the time of the accident, Justina was not insured by health insurance nor did she have supplemental insurance with her auto insurance. She was informed by the hospital that her only option is to pay the entire amount or to make a minimal monthly payment of hundreds of dollars with added interest charges for many years to come.
On July 21st, Justina was released from the hospital. As an Art Education major with a minor in Dance, we are praying for 100% recovery.
